A competitor in the J1 category, dedicated to Para Judo athletes with visual impairments, his impact has spread far beyond the judo mat, too.</p>"},"text":{"processed":"<p>Seb has been training under the guidance of former Olympic judoka turned nutritionist and coach, Daniëlle Gommers-Vriezema, since he was just 15. Soon, he wasn’t just training but competing alongside sighted judo athletes at the renowned Kenamju sport centre in Haarlem in his native Netherlands.</p>\n\n<p>Seb’s ability enabled him to quickly advance from local competitions to national championships, and then to international judo Grand Prix events. In fact, he progressed through the ranks so rapidly that he soon made his first appearance at the sport’s premier competition – the 2025 IBSA (International Blind Sports Federation) Judo World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, held in May 2025. Seb did himself and his nation proud during the event, ultimately bringing home a bronze medal in the J1M -64 kg weight class.</p>\n\n<p>Seb has used the inevitable attention from his wins to become a powerful role model for inclusivity and resilience. Like SALTO FOUNDATION, Seb believes in the power of sport to drive change and foster inclusion. His story is a compelling one, and it’s only just beginning: he’s set his sights not only on competing at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, but winning a medal there.
