On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the center of Irun came alive with excitement and community spirit as the SALTO FOUNDATION marked the 10th anniversary of its Millas de Irun 5K. More than 700 people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities joined in – showing how sports can unite everyone.
\n\nThe SALTO FOUNDATION Millas de Irun 5K welcomed athletes of all types, including those with disabilities. Participants could choose to run or walk. Special routes and ttipi-ttapa rides were offered for those needing extra help. We were thrilled to see so many people with disabilities taking part and showing off their talents.
\n\nWe’re very thankful to everyone who participated and made this weekend sporting event such a great success. Together, we raised important funds for cancer research, so thank you to everyone who helped support this important cause.

\nThe day began with the traditional Ttipi Ttapa wellness walk. Forty local seniors walked the one-mile route, smiling as they completed several laps along Paseo Colón. As is the local custom, they were welcomed at the finish line with pinchos, traditional Spanish snacks, to celebrate their achievement.
\n\nThe 5K races began promptly at 10 a.m., with runners separated into two start waves based on their target finish times:
\n\nSub-20-minute group: The race was close! Kevin Lassere won the men’s race in 14:52, with Pierre Urruty and Enaitz Aginagalde finishing next. For the women, Paula del Pozo finished first in 17:41, followed by María Velázquez and Idoia Nogales.
\n\tOver-20-minute group: Imanol Bellido finished first in 17:31, but the official podium went to Mikel Hermoso, Lander Tapia, and Unai Blanco because the rules require a time of 18:45 or more. For the women, Naiara Domeño finished first in19:29, with Sara Aguirre and Leire Eizaguirre following.

\nThe shorter mile races featured the event’s adaptive and popular categories:
\n\nHandbike category: Leire Troitiño finished first with 4:57, followed by Alberto Muñagorri, Kontxi Sagarzazu, and Joselu Rodríguez.
\n\tIn what is considered the true heart of the event, participants excelled in the Intellectual Disability half-mile competition. More than just a race, the Millas de Irun 5K is a powerful catalyst for community connection and social impact. Reflecting SALTO FOUNDATION’s core belief that sport belongs to everyone, this category brought together a beautiful, diverse group of participants breaking down both physical and intellectual barriers. In one of the most moving highlights of the day, runners with intellectual disabilities took over the course side-by-side with local club athletes, who volunteered their time as guides and running companions – proving that when we run together, no barrier is unbreakable.
